Bio-toilet (Composting Toilet) can only be described as one in which waste is converted by bio venture. For example, live bacteria, peat or sawdust (as in the USA models). The rest were for the same purpose chemical substances, it is more logical to call “Portable camping toilet”. The first recycled waste safe for the environment and can be poured into the soil, the compost pit, while the latter need to “hide” away in the sewers.
But still, having in mind a more exact value, we use the term “composting toilet” as an established and generally accepted. Note also that we will be talking about portable toilets, although there are other very interesting models, in some sense intermediate between portable and stationary.
Types portable Composting Toilet
Despite the great variety of models, almost any Bio-toilet is built similarly to conventional toilet consists of two tanks – one with a seat and water for washing waste and the second for their reception and processing. That is, the composting toilet has a built-in cleanse where waste is disposed, generally, at 80 percent, and the remaining 20 can to Supplement the compost if there safe to pour. Both containers are easily separated from each other.
Without going into details, it is necessary to fill water to the top, and the bottom Deposit for disposal of waste, and the toilet is ready for use. Since the lower tank is sealed, and the waste when disposing of it has lost its odor, the composting toilet does not smell almost. The device needs no Sewerage and no electricity, except for some “advanced” models.
Stand out two models – the so-called cassette toilets from Holland and “Bioveta”. If your composting toilet the waste disposal process requires time, in each cluster, the portion of the waste completely, we can say “instantly”, splits the active chemical substance. Therefore needs to surround the lower reservoir is empty, but instead, has a relatively small container. “Bioveta”, which is released in Canada, France, Italy, in fact, is analogous to a simple bucket toilet, only to recycling. It is not sealed, but still better than the usual rustic toilet.
Features portable camping toilet
Portable toilets are called for a reason. They are compact, and the weight of even the largest does not exceed 4,5–5 kg. Height 34-42 cm, depending on the volume of the lower tank, and the permissible vertical load on the toilet about 250 kg. the Device is easy to carry from place to place and transport. If necessary you can put anywhere in the house, the room, including in the nursery, the street, in cafes, on the boat, next to the disabled etc. But you need to still take into account that some smells (chemicals and “natural”) are still present. Therefore, if possible, the toilet is better to put in the utility room. However, subzero temperatures it is contraindicated. The price of this pleasure relatively attractive – an average of $100-150.
In toilets applied durable and resistant to various damaging factors are plastic, and subject to the instructions they can serve indefinitely, which also contributes to the simplicity of the design. Plastic is easy to clean and the bottom of the tank because of his integrity maintenance – after emptying, it helps to rinse it a couple times with water through the drain hole.
The volume of the lower tank toilets are divided into small (11 l), medium (15 l) and large (24 l). Small is designed for 20-25 visits, the average is 30-35, but in 45-50, when filling the lower tank with one portion of the means for the disposal of waste.
A small family, unlike the families, are bigger, can do small or medium. But the volume of the upper reservoir all models 15 l, and one discharge in two or three glasses of. To increase the drain without the need undesirable, because this will cause emptying of the lower tank, and this procedure is in any case not pleasant.
On average, the toilets need to be emptied once in 5-8 days. The exception is interesting, in our opinion, the Swedish model, where the lower tank is divided into two containers. In the bottom fed liquid fraction with the subsequent output into the soil, compost pit or the sewer, and the other is “hard”, which by the compressor is dried and formed into a special container, where it eventually turns into a valuable organic fertilizer. To empty the container every 3-4 months. But for all its environmental safety and portability, this model requires electricity for the compressor and ventilation systems and installing the ventilation system for removing unpleasant odors.
Portable camping toilet – how to use
The toilets can’t work without the so-called consumables. This special toilet paper that dissolves in the lower tank, special shampoos, liquids to disinfect toilet bowls and facilitate flushing, as well as liquid or granules for the bottom of the tank, within a few hours destroying odors and turn the waste into some kind of homogenous mass with a quite reasonable smell. Manufacturers of composting toilets all this produce, and highly classified technology, and, furthermore, does not guarantee the normal operation of “their” toilet if you use consumables from other manufacturers.
Consumables for mobile toilet
Consumables – actually not cheap, considering the frequent need for them. But, as practice shows, they can save money without harming the operation of the toilet. First, you can do without “native” toilet paper, and instead use any, if you throw it in the toilet, and in a special container with a lid, then burn or put in the compost pit. Secondly, in the upper tank can be filled no special shampoos or other disinfectant liquid, but just do clean water. And third, to experiment with reducing a number of funds deposited in the lower reservoir.
Composting Toilet – which is better
However, this question is rather rhetorical, because now a lot of information from different sources, and everyone can choose for themselves, consistent with their means and circumstances, the right model. Still, these toilets are considered almost the best in the world, but some Italian models, priceless, they are not inferior in comfort and quality. I would like to mention also USA toilets on the peat and sawdust, which are not portable, but they are, without a doubt, environmentally friendly and can be very useful at the cottage and in the village.
Operation camping toilet:
● In the process of operation, it was found that the bio-toilet water pressure is not enough for a quality drain and you have to use an additional device type brushes.
● Very convenient that the waste container has a button, which can be used initially to release the air. The liquid thus flows calm smooth stream and not “spitting” all over the place.
● Before using the toilet, you need to open the leaf in the tank for wastewater and accumulate gasses and this could work as a small geyser. This is mentioned in the instructions.
● The indicator on the capacity for Sewerage indicates the degree of occupancy – if the green color is gradually replaced by the red, the container should release!
